A MODERN HOSPITAl NETWORK
THERE’s AN AMBITIOUS PLAN TO TRANSFORM patient care IN WINDSOR-ESSEX. It starts with a new, modern hospital.
Renewing Windsor-Essex’s acute care hospital infrastructure is an investment in the region’s prosperity that will last for generations. It’s a multi-site plan that will provide the modern infrastructure needed for the region, and ensure patients get the dignified and specialized care they need – right here in Windsor-Essex.
The new ACUTE CARE HOSPITAL
Located at County Road 42 and 9th Concession, a new state-of-the hospital will be the cornerstone of the region’s new acute care system.
The new state-of-the-art facility will accommodate an equal or even greater number of acute care beds than the current system capacity combined.
The massive 1.6 million square foot facility will provide ample room for expanded care as the region grows. This single facility will exceed the size of the two current acute care campuses combined by an additional 30%.
State-of-the-art facilities to serve generations to come:
At least 80% SINGLE BED, PRIVATE ROOMS
At least eighty per cent of rooms will be private and single occupancy, limiting the spread of infection and increasing patient privacy. Each patient will have access to their own washroom and shower, ensuring privacy and dignity. It will mean an end to hallway medicine in Windsor-Essex.
HELIPAD & AIR AMBULANCE READY
Seconds matter in an emergency. Ornge Air Ambulance will be able to land directly at the new hospital and transfer patients directly to the new Level 2 Trauma Centre without the need for land transport.
A PANDEMIC-READY FACILITY
In addition to private rooms, the new facility will support dedicated negative pressure isolation rooms with segregated air flow. Modern laboratory facilities will support rapid patient testing, and the larger facility can support additional surge capacity beds.
Expanded imaging & CATH LABS
Modern imaging systems are simply huge – so big they need to be directly integrated into the building! The new hospital will feature multiple new imaging systems and cath labs to support urgent care.
DESIGNED FOR CUTTING-EDGE CARE
The new state-of-the-art laboratory, imaging, and other facilities will strengthen Windsor Regional Hospital’s ability to support advanced clinical studies, pharmaceutical research, and medical education for the next generation of healthcare professionals. Windsor-Essex residents will benefit not only from advancements in medical science – the new facilities will attract new investment, growing the region’s economy.
A HOSPITAL NETWORK TO MEET THE REGION’S NEEDS
A REVAMPED OUELLETTE CAMPUS
Returning to its original site founded more than a century ago, Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare will once again serve patients at Ouellette. The existing facilities will be re-developed to support outpatient mental health care.
Redevelopment of the Ouellette Campus will accommodate an Urgent Care/Satellite Emergency Facility in order to provide a new model of emergency care to patients in the city's core. The facility will also include ambulatory, day services, diagnostic imaging, primary care services, a laboratory, and a pharmacy.
This redevelopment will ensure downtown residents have continued access to care.
CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE AT TAYFOUR
Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare will remain on site at the Tayfour facilities as the site is substantially redeveloped to support acute mental health care, turning it into a new provincial Centre of Mental Health Excellence.
The redeveloped facilities will support a 60-bed acute mental health care wing, providing patients with state-of-the-art care.
The redeveloped facilities will also feature an expansion of diagnostic imaging services, as well as new dialysis services and care.
A SHOT IN THE ARM FOR THE WINDSOR-ESSEX ECONOMY
Putting shovels in the ground for a new Windsor-Essex hospitals system will directly create hundreds of high-quality local jobs. The legacy of this project will mean many more in medical sciences, patient care, and medical research.
It’s a desperately needed investment in Windsor-Essex’s health and prosperity for generations to come.
But none of it will happen unless we speak up for it.
